Not only is there a good tax reason to future planning, there is also a myth that if you live as partners, not married or civil partners, that we have common law here and your partner will inherit from you.
That is not so when it comes to the law of intestacy.
If you die without a will (intestate) and live as common law with your partner, they will not automatically inherit everything from you. If the house is not owned jointly, then you could lose it.
